bg-[#F4F4F4]! dark:bg-[#303030]!\" href=\"https:\/\/ville.montreal.qc.ca\/pls\/portal\/url\/ITEM\/C86CC03A8FBB80AAE0430A93013280AA?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"relative start-0 bottom-0 flex h-full w-full items-center\"><span class=\"flex h-4 w-full items-center justify-between overflow-hidden\"><span class=\"max-w-[15ch] grow truncate overflow-hidden text-center\">Montr\u00e9al<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1796\" data-end=\"2033\">Even allowing for different reference years, the pattern is clear: <strong data-start=\"1863\" data-end=\"1988\">households in Lachine earn significantly more on average than those in Montr\u00e9al-Nord, VSMPE and Rosemont\u2013La Petite-Patrie<\/strong>, while the city-wide median sits in between.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2236\">\n<p data-start=\"2037\" data-end=\"2236\"><em data-start=\"2053\" data-end=\"2236\">A family in Lachine typically earns about $10,000 more per year than a family in Montr\u00e9al-Nord \u2014 enough to be the difference between \u201ctight but manageable\u201d and \u201cconstantly behind.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr data-start=\"2238\" data-end=\"2241\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2292\">How do education levels map onto income gaps?<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2294\" data-end=\"2418\">Education is one of the strongest predictors of income and long-term opportunity, and here again the island splits into two.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2420\" data-end=\"2533\">Across Montr\u00e9al, about <strong data-start=\"2443\" data-end=\"2493\">35% of adults (25\u201364) hold a university degree<\/strong>.<span class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"><span class=\"ms-1 inline-flex max-w-full items-center relative top-[-0.094rem] animate-[show_150ms_ease-in]\" data-testid=\"webpage-citation-pill\"><a class=\"flex h-4.5 overflow-hidden rounded-xl px-2 text-[9px] font-medium transition-colors duration-150 ease-in-out text-token-text-secondary! bg-[#F4F4F4]! dark:bg-[#303030]!\" href=\"https:\/\/ocpm.qc.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/P101\/3.6_portrait_et_potentiel_de_transformation_des_activites_economiques_dans_le_secteur_turcot-lachine-est_2016.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"relative start-0 bottom-0 flex h-full w-full items-center\"><span class=\"flex h-4 w-full items-center justify-between overflow-hidden\"><span class=\"max-w-[15ch] grow truncate overflow-hidden text-center\">OCPM<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3187\" data-end=\"3392\">\n<p data-start=\"3189\" data-end=\"3392\">Lachine sits in a kind of <strong data-start=\"3215\" data-end=\"3236\">\u201cmiddle Montr\u00e9al\u201d<\/strong>: incomes slightly above city average, education levels moderate, with big internal contrasts between older working-class streets and new waterfront condos.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3394\" data-end=\"3800\">\n<p data-start=\"3396\" data-end=\"3438\"><strong data-start=\"3396\" data-end=\"3436\">Villeray\u2013Saint-Michel\u2013Parc-Extension<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3441\" data-end=\"3800\">\n<li data-start=\"3441\" data-end=\"3669\">\n<p data-start=\"3443\" data-end=\"3669\">VSMPE combines <strong data-start=\"3458\" data-end=\"3487\">high rates of immigration<\/strong> with <strong data-start=\"3493\" data-end=\"3516\">more modest incomes<\/strong>, and education levels that tend to sit <strong data-start=\"3556\" data-end=\"3582\">below the city average<\/strong>, especially in Saint-Michel and Parc-Extension.<span class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"><span class=\"ms-1 inline-flex max-w-full items-center relative top-[-0.094rem] animate-[show_150ms_ease-in]\" data-testid=\"webpage-citation-pill\"><a class=\"flex h-4.5 overflow-hidden rounded-xl px-2 text-[9px] font-medium transition-colors duration-150 ease-in-out text-token-text-secondary! bg-[#F4F4F4]! dark:bg-[#303030]!\" href=\"https:\/\/tqmns.org\/le-quartier\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"relative start-0 bottom-0 flex h-full w-full items-center\"><span class=\"flex h-4 w-full items-center justify-between overflow-hidden\"><span class=\"max-w-[15ch] grow truncate overflow-hidden text-center\">tqmns.org<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3963\" data-end=\"4103\">\n<p data-start=\"3965\" data-end=\"4103\">Montr\u00e9al-Nord has <strong data-start=\"3983\" data-end=\"4045\">one of the lowest university-education rates on the island<\/strong>, which mirrors its lower incomes and higher unemployment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4105\" data-end=\"4157\">Taken together, you can see a <strong data-start=\"4135\" data-end=\"4154\">double Montr\u00e9al<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4159\" data-end=\"4510\">\n<li data-start=\"4159\" data-end=\"4301\">\n<p data-start=\"4161\" data-end=\"4301\">an inner-east and north-east belt (Montr\u00e9al-Nord, parts of VSMPE) where <strong data-start=\"4233\" data-end=\"4282\">lower incomes and lower university attainment<\/strong> go hand-in-hand,<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4302\" data-end=\"4510\">\n<p data-start=\"4304\" data-end=\"4510\">and a band of more mixed or rising-income areas (Lachine, Rosemont\u2013La Petite-Patrie, parts of Villeray) where <strong data-start=\"4414\" data-end=\"4459\">education levels and incomes are climbing<\/strong>, but affordability is increasingly under pressure.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"4512\" data-end=\"4515\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"4517\" data-end=\"4565\">Who is paying the highest price for housing?<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4567\" data-end=\"4774\">Across the Grand Montr\u00e9al region, around <strong data-start=\"4608\" data-end=\"4687\">one-third of tenant households spend 30% or more of their income on housing<\/strong>, the standard threshold for \u201chousing stress\u201d.<span class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"><span class=\"ms-1 inline-flex max-w-full items-center relative top-[-0.094rem] animate-[show_150ms_ease-in]\" data-testid=\"webpage-citation-pill\"><a class=\"flex h-4.5 overflow-hidden rounded-xl px-2 text-[9px] font-medium transition-colors duration-150 ease-in-out text-token-text-secondary!
