This cheese was originally made by monks in Oka, Quebec. The Oka cheese started in Quebec in the 1800’s and is to this day one of the most popular Quebec cheeses. It is named after the town it is in.
OKA cheese has a strong aroma and a soft flavor. It is definitely something to try and enjoy. They also make fresh cheese curds which are really tasty. When you visit L’abbaye D’oka, they will give you free samples of their cheeses to try so you know which ones you will choose to take home.
Not only does the Magasin de L’abbaye D’Oka have delicious cheese, they have so many other homemade products. They have really yummy sausages and burgers which include bison, turkey, boar, deer and more. What is impressive is their meats do not use any preservatives and contain very little fat. They also make amazing homemade sausage sandwiches on the premises for you to relish in.
You can go all the way and enjoy some of their delightful desserts as well. They have unique chocolates, delicious pies and cookies.
