About Optel
Optel is a Québec City company founded in 1989. It makes track-and-trace systems that follow medicines and food through the supply chain, from the factory to the store shelf.
Most people never see Optel's work, but it plays a role in making sure products are where they should be and that recalls or counterfeits can be traced. For readers curious about Quebec tech beyond apps and games, it is a good example of industrial know-how. The company has grown from its roots in Québec City, which has a strong engineering and optics community.
