Escritoire – New coworking space with a nod to Montreal’s past

Montreal Tips | Women Entrepreneurs

The rise in office-less workers

We’ve come a long way from the dangerous and unforgiving factory work of the 19th century to where we are today. Thanks to the Digital Revolution of the 20th century, the workforce today is almost unrecognizable in comparison.

One major shift is the rise in office-less workers. Many people today telecommute, run their own business from home, or are working on their dream startup with a small group of people and no set office space.

Enter, the rise of coworking spaces! And there’s a really amazing one located in the booming St-Henri neighbourhood.

Designed with entrepreneurs in mind

Designed with young entrepreneurs in mind, Escritoire is housed in a former 19th century factory building, giving you a sense of belonging within the city’s timeline, past, present and future.

But this space goes beyond the alluring cachet of exposed brick, huge windows and cozy, yet open working environment. It also has everything you want in a functional, welcoming office space, without the timecards or over-the-shoulder managers.

At Escritoire, you’ll have access to:

  • Unlimited coffee (something the 1860 factory workers definitely did not have!)
  • 24 hour building access
  • High speed internet
  • Private phone booth
  • HD projector
  • Mail service (get work-related mail sent to an actual work address instead of your home)
  • Private lockers
  • Conference room for events or meetings
  • Printing and scanning facilities

They currently offer 3 different affordable pricing plans, depending on your needs.

Founded by Israa Hilles and Co-Founders, Wisal El-Assaad and Ibtissam El Assaad., Escritoire also hosts regular entrepreneurial workshops as well as networking and social events, or you can host your own event of up to 150 people. Perfect for your big launch!

For entrepreneurs, this is a space you will actually want to bring potential partners or investors to. It is comfortable, fun, energetic, but also incredibly professional and all about giving young entrepreneurs the facilities and support to help them succeed. Because you have better things to do with your time than trying to find a place to scan a document at 11 pm or holding onto that 4-seat table in Starbucks for your upcoming meeting.

The building itself also houses a pilates studio and gym for women, is within walking distance of Place-St-Henri metro station and is surrounded by several new and trendy cafes, restaurants and other small businesses, some of which offer partner discounts to Escritoire members.

As if that weren’t enough, in the Quebec entrepreneurship contest, OSEntreprendre Challenge, Escritoire became a local winner, coming in the top 22.

Recently Escritoire hosted LinkedIn Local Montreal, which is a meetup concept that allows you to connect with your LinkedIn network offline, and create meaningful interactions.

You’ll find Escritoire at 642 De Courcelle, suite 303.
