what to do when it is snowing outside?
Snow, snow and more snow!
Snow is here!
How to make the best out of the snowy days?
It’s finally February, but as we all know, that doesn’t mean an end to the snow. Au contraire! There is still much more snow to come. But fear not. Although the holiday festivities may be over, there is plenty to do in and around Montreal to make the most of the snow that’s still to come.
Here are our top picks for making the best of our long winters:
Enjoy The Outdoors
Head to Mount Royal
Mount Royal has so much going on throughout the winter. There’s tubing, tobogganing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skating and bird watching! There are even Valentine’s events planned that include a romantic dinner at the Beaver Lake Pavilion. Check out their upcoming events, activities and lessons for the whole family.
Skating at Parc Lafontaine or the Old Port
The Natrel rink on the Old Port has theme nights, music and a stunning view of the city. It’s a chilled rink, meaning it’s in excellent condition no matter what the weather. Access to the rink is not free, but it’s reasonably priced and they offer bundles that include Imax tickets or passes for the observation wheel.
Another option is the rink at Parc Lafontaine. It’s a natural rink, so it can be affected by rising temperatures, but it is a beautiful rink that follows the path of the south basin. Access is free and you can even get skating lessons!
Both rinks have on site skate rental and sharpening services at reasonable prices.
Take a ski lesson at Bromont
If you’re an avid skier, you already know how to make the most of the snow. If you’ve never tried, or you’re feeling out of practice, head to Bromont, which is only 30 minutes outside the city. They offer ski and snowboard lessons for all ages, and reasonably priced equipment rentals, including helmets. Safety first!
Enjoy the Indoors
Get the heat rising… with yoga!
There are two styles of hot yoga: bikram and moksha. Both are practiced in hot studios (in February? Yes, please!) and there are many classes available around Montreal. If you’re a beginner, moksha is a good place to start as it has a more relaxed vibe and was designed around a philosophy of community, fun and inclusiveness.
There are several moksha studios in and around the city including one on blvd. St. Laurent, another in NDG, one in the West Island and another in trendy Griffintown.
Take a bath
It does not get better than the outdoor baths at Bota Bota to forget all about the cold in February and March. Bring your tuque and a friend you can enjoy the steamy pool and serenity with as you watch fellow Montrealers trudging through the snow in the old city.
And of course you can just escape.
Escape
No, we’re not talking about a trip down south (although that’s definitely an option). We’re talking about escape rooms! Believe it or not, there is a huge variety of escape rooms and games in Montreal and they’re the perfect way to spend a cold day inside. Check out a few of our favourite escape rooms.
