Top 5 Landmarks to Visit in Quebec City

Do you want to know about the five best landmarks to visit in Quebec City? If yes, this article gives you all the necessary information. Read here!

Landmarks to Visit in Quebec City

Quebec City is a beautiful place located at the province’s southern end. It is 252 kilometers away from Montreal and famous for its traditional architecture, cobbled streets, classy restaurants, 18th-century houses, and beautiful squares. Quebec City is a UNESCO World-Heritage City, boating rich history, a proud French identity, mesmerizing sites, and eye-catching architectural buildings. Here are the top five landmarks to visit in Quebec City. Read on!

1.    Musee de la Civilization

Musee de la Civilization, also known as the Museum of Civilization, is the most beautiful landmark to visit in the city’s Old Quarter. Located in the riverfront portion, the museum showcases the history of humankind with more focus on Canadian and Quebec’s history. You can find a wide range of exhibits on numerous aspects of history and culture in different parts of the world. The museum hosts special exhibitions to showcase the contribution of a particular country, nation, or community toward humanity. Besides, we recommend exploring the museum’s permanent exhibits. For instance, it showcases the manuscripts and artifacts of yesteryear’s people who lived in Quebec. Similarly, the museum is a perfect place to learn about Canada’s indigenous people. We recommend taking a guided tour of 60 minutes.

2.    Place-Royale

Place-Royale is one of the most visited landmarks in Quebec City. Most people, including locals and tourists, consider Place Royale the spiritual heart of French Canada. The cobblestoned square in the Old Quarter was built in 1608, making it one of Quebec’s oldest and most historic buildings. On one side of the Place-Royale is the world-famous Notre Dame church. If you want to learn about Quebec’s local history, you can visit this place with your friends. The best thing to do in Place Royale is to watch the film “Facing Champlain.” It is a three-dimensional film that immerses you in the historical context, making your visit meaningful and mesmerizing.

3.    La Citadelle de Quebec

La Citadelle de Quebec is a beautiful fortress built in the first half of the 19th century by the British. The place boasts three centuries of military history in Quebec. Currently, it is a military installation and home to French-speaking infantry in the Canadian armed forces. When you visit Quebec City between June and September, you can visit La Citadelle de Quebec before 10:00 AM to watch guards taking charge. The 45-minute daily changing of the guard is an excellent way to experience something unique and create memories.

4.    Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

The Canadian Pacific Railway constructed the Chateau Frontenac in 1892. It has hosted famous people throughout the years. These include politicians, celebrities, sportspeople, and dignitaries. For example, La Chateau Frontenac hosted the 1943’s meeting between Franklin D and Winston Churchill. Moreover, La Chateau is a perfect place to discover Canada’s history, explore manuscripts of historical events, and learn about famous people who shaped the country’s identity over the years. Similarly, you can relish the architectural marvel, take photos, and create memories.

5.    Plains of Abraham

Plains of Abraham is a famous landmark and monument in Quebec City. It attracts more than four million visitors and tourists every year, making it a renowned site in Quebec City. Plain of Abraham hosts cultural events and festivals. It is an ideal place for locals and tourists to walk, jog, run, and relax. Many people also visit this place to play sports, bask in the sun, or picnic. Similarly, Plains of Abraham blend history and modernity, with stunning views and gorgeous landscapes. Thanks to the beautiful mountains and pristine glaciers, lakes, and forests, you will love viewing the urban sights and natural beauty.

Final Words

Quebec City is the epitome of history, architecture, French culture, and scenic beauty. The narrow cobblestoned alleyways of this city offer tourists a sight of European architecture, especially of the bygone era. The French capital of Quebec’s province boasts the history and culture of the French-Canadian lifestyle. The city sits down the St. Lawrence River with gorgeous views and picturesque landscapes. The cradle of French Canada and the only fortified city in North America with magnificent heritage, European charm, and welcoming people make Quebec’s city the best place to visit in Canada. Until Next Time!
