SPOTLIGHT: Unique and Inspiring Artwork from Sanaafy
Those hidden gems
Sanaafy is one of those hidden gems for those “in the know” to find truly unique and inspiring artwork that brings your home to life. But, unlike many of our city’s varied and eclectic boutiques, this Montreal-based business is entirely online.
The Shop
The shop’s focus is mainly on art prints and posters, including vibrant prints like this one of the Nairobi skyline. They also have a collection of printed phone cases and tote bags, like the absolutely stunning print featured below, with more merchandise to come.
What makes Sanaafy truly unique is that everything in the shop is produced by African artists. Sanaafy founder, Scarlett Njeri Muguthi, moved to Montreal from Kenya about 5 years ago. After graduating from McGill University, she moved into her first apartment and wanted to bring a few African pieces into her new home. Unfortunately, she quickly discovered that authentic African art and decor was simply too expensive online. From that discovery, the idea for Sanaafy was born. Working alongside her partner, Scarlett quickly opened the gorgeous online shop.
The vision of Sanaafy
Today, the vision of Sanaafy is to make pieces from home available to others like Scarlett, as well as to wider markets, and to support African artists for whom the price of setting up shop on their own is too high. Sanaafy offsets many of the costs these artists would incur on their own, and also eliminates much of the competition from other online art shops by focusing on African-only artists. The result is an impressive collection of beautiful artwork.
